The Metro M1 and M3 air gage displays have been replaced by the Metro M5. If you run an M1 or M3 today, the M5 is the direct successor: same air gaging, same tooling and masters, with a larger touchscreen, three characteristics on one screen, and QR-code setup. We still support the M1 and M3, and their manuals are here.
Which M5 replaces your display
| You have | Metro part no. | Replace with | Part no. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metro M1 Air (1 input) | 11040 | Metro M5 Air, 1 input | MET-M5AIR1 |
| Metro M3 Air (2 inputs) | 13040 | Metro M5 Air, 2 inputs | MET-M5AIR2 |
| Metro M3 for inductive or Heidenhain probes | 13010 and others | Metro M5 for gauging probes | By probe type |
Want a complete bench station instead of a bare display? The Air Gage Pro puts an M5 in a housing with a filter-regulator, pressure gauge and front quick-connects.
What changes
| M1 / M3 Air | M5 Air | |
|---|---|---|
| Inputs | M1: 1 · M3: 2 | 1 or 2 (up to 4 through M-Bus modules) |
| Screen | 4.3″ resistive touchscreen | 5″ capacitive color touchscreen, 800×480 |
| Data output | USB keyboard emulation; RS232 ASCII or Modbus RTU | Same, plus CSV export to a USB drive |
| Power | 5 V DC through mini-USB | 24 V DC |
The M5 also adds:
- Up to 3 characteristics on one screen, with math between inputs
- 10 programs, with administrator password protection
- Digital, color bar graph or analog dial views
- QR and barcode reader support: load a complete setup, or enter a lot or serial number, by scan
What carries over
- Your air tooling and masters. The M5 works with air plugs, rings and snap gages of any brand, and you master it the same way.
- Footswitch. The M1/M3 footswitch (18020) is the same part used on the M5. See the footswitch.
- M-Bus I/O modules. The M5 has the same M-Bus connection for I/O, relay and temperature modules. See M-Bus modules.
- Clean, regulated air. Keep your filter-regulator in service, or replace it with our precision filter-regulator.
What to plan for
- Re-enter your setups. Set up each part program on the M5 once. After that, a QR code reader can load any setup by scan.
- Power. The M5 runs on 24 V DC instead of USB power, and comes with its own power supply.
- Data cables. If you send readings to a PC or PLC over RS232, confirm the cable. The M5 uses the 45160 RS232 cable. Tell us what the M3 connects to and we'll match it.
Questions
Is the Metro M3 discontinued?
Yes. The M1 and M3 have been replaced by the M5. We still support existing units and keep their manuals available.
Will my air plugs and rings work with the M5?
Yes. The M5 Air works with air tooling of any brand. You set it with your masters the same way you set the M3.
Can the M5 read two air gages at once?
Yes. The 2-input M5 reads two circuits and can show up to three characteristics, including a calculated one such as the difference between two diameters.
Do you still repair or support the M1 and M3?
We support them with setup help and manuals. Call (815) 242-0027 about a specific unit.
