An air snap gage (also called a C-gage) measures a shaft from the side, so the part can stay on the grinder or between centers. The open C-frame slips over the diameter, and two opposed jets in the throat read size without touching the part.

How it is built

  • Two opposed jets in the throat read diameter the same way an air ring does
  • Carbide back stops locate the part against a hard, wear-resistant surface
  • Kevlar-reinforced nylon bumpers keep the frame from marking a finished shaft
  • Supplied with a hose assembly to suit your readout

Styles

Code Style Face to jet (Dim. A)
ACC Center jet .375″ (9.5 mm)
ACS Shoulder jet For measuring close to a shoulder

Where a snap gage helps

  • In-process grinding: check size without taking the part out of the machine
  • Long shafts: no need to slide a ring the length of the part
  • Shouldered diameters: a shoulder-jet gage reads close to the face
  • Several diameters at once: multi-channel gages are built to order

How to order

Snap gages follow the same rules as rings: ACC or ACS, then jet code with clearance class (Dual Master) or spec code (Single Master), material, then size. Dual Master gages take min/max sizes; Single Master gages take the nominal master size.

Snap gages are quoted by our team. Send the shaft size and tolerance, your readout make and model, and any nearby shoulders, and we'll quote the gage, masters and hose. See the air tooling catalog (PDF) for details.
